Each year, DBM Association, in conjunction with a recognized university, awards Certificates of Advanced Education at the SCLA Annual Executive Business Forum.

The DBM Association’s faculty is comprised of more than forty of the world’s leading universities. Academics from the United Kingdom, Germany and the U.S. along with many other countries have presented, facilitated and participated in the SCLA Annual Executive Business Forum and past educational programs.

Certificate of Advanced Education

Issued by the Distribution Business Management Association in conjunction with one of our supporting universities, the Certificate of Advanced Education is issued annually to attendees who complete the required courses offered at the SCLA Executive Forum. Upon receiving three Certificates of Advanced Education, attendees are eligible for the Specialist Diploma in Distribution Business Management. Requirements for the Specialist Diploma are outlined in the Specialist Diploma Specs and Guidelines page.

Emerging Technologies for Competitive Advantages

DBM joins the academic leaders in global supply chain strategies to award the Specialist Diploma in Distribution Business Management to eligible candidates. This Specialist Diploma was developed in coordination with the world's leading universities, giving candidates recognition as world class leaders in supply chain.


Specifications and Guidelines

To attain this diploma candidates must attend three SCLA Annual Executive Forums. Upon completion, candidates write an essay detailing how they applied the knowledge gained from SCLA at their own company. Each submission is supervised by one of DBM’s educational board members.

DBMA Distinguished Service Award

DBM presents the Distinguished Service Award annually to an individual who has made an outstanding service contribution to the supply chain profession. The award recognizes service in the areas of supply chain management, professional societies, publications, conferences, and leadership that has had a major impact on supply chain management and supply chain solutions. A partial list of recipients is listed below.

Rick Sather -2016

The Distribution Business Management Association is proud to present the 2016 Distinguished Service Award to Rick Sather, vice president of supply chain and operations at Link Snacks, Inc. His decades of experience and innovative contributions in supply chain make him a deserving recipient among this year's award winners.

Carl Graziani - 2015

The Distribution Business Management Association honors Carl Graziani, president of Super Store Industries, with the Distinguished Service Award for his innovative marketing and supply chain efforts. He oversees warehousing, procurement, and distribution for California's Savemart and Raley's, solidifying his leadership in the grocery industry.

Deverl Maserang - 2014

Deverl is Starbucks' executive vice president of the Global Supply Chain Organization (GSC) and a member of the senior leadership team. He oversees global supply chain operations, including manufacturing, procurement, distribution, and inventory management. His dedication and leadership in the industry made him a natural choice for this role.

John Phillips - 2013

John is Senior Vice President, Customer Supply Chain and Logistics at PepsiCo, Inc. He has been with the company for over 26 years, starting as a route salesperson with Frito-Lay. John works with PepsiCo’s largest customers on supply chain collaboration initiatives to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.

Jim Malvaso - 2012

Waheed Zaman, senior vice president of Chiquita Brands Inc., received the 2012 Distinguished Service Award for managing a global supply chain with 17,000 employees across 80 countries. Since joining in 2004 as CIO, he has overseen procurement, logistics, and expanded to include salads manufacturing and agriculture.

Jim Malvaso - 2011

James J. Malvaso has been President & CEO of Toyota Material Handling North America and Chairman of The Raymond Corporation since April 2010. He also serves as a Managing Officer of Toyota Industries Corporation and is on the Management Committee for the Toyota Material Handling Group. He was previously President & CEO of The Raymond Corporation from July 1997.

Don Walker - 2010

Don Walker, SVP of Distribution Operations at McKesson Pharmaceuticals, received the 2010 Distinguished Service Award for his leadership in Supply Chain Leaders in Action (SCLA). As 2010 SCLA Chairman, he helped shape the Annual Business Forum themed “Prospering in the ‘New Normal’ Economy,” emphasizing the need for leaders to define and create that future together.

Donald Ralph - 2009

Donald Ralph, SVP of Supply Chain & Logistics at Staples Inc., received the 2009 Distinguished Service Award for his leadership in building one of the industry’s top supply chain teams. He oversees a global network of 29 million square feet across 27 countries and previously gained 27 years of experience with Federated and May Department Stores before joining Staples.

James LaBounty - 2008

James LaBounty received the 2008 Distinguished Service Award for his more than 40 years of leadership in supply chain management. Retiring as SVP and Director of Supply Chain at JCPenney, he oversaw a $1 billion pipeline operation, following a 28-year U.S. Army career that included serving as Chief of the Congressional Liaison Office.

Kevin Smith - 2007

Kevin Smith received the 2007 Distinguished Service Award for his career contributions to supply chain leadership. CEO of Sustainable Supply Chain Consulting and former SVP and Corporate Sustainability Officer at CVS Caremark, he previously held senior roles at H.J. Heinz and Kraft Foods, and has served on numerous industry and academic boards.
